This week I’m working diligently on setting up my brand new program the Million-Dollar Business Habits of Excellence program.

I’m super excited. I’ve been really working on how to help you as a business owner, professional, and entrepreneur to move forward and improve your focus, your effectiveness, and your results in a simple, fun, and effective way that doesn’t take you out of your focus, distract your from your goal, or is just too much effort to achieve.

The M.D.B. Habits of Excellence program is perfect. The whole idea is to add into your daily life a habit that will help you to be more productive, more focused, get stuff done easier, give you more energy, lift your spirits, and overall help you produce better results. Sometimes thinking about this process can be scary and daunting. The reason for this is that we often take on too much. When we have an elephant to eat we can get very discouraged. The trick is to take small bites and just keep moving forward consistently.

The whole essence of the The Habits of Excellence program is to take small bites and just keep going. We’re going to focus on setting up one habit that you really want to focus on and YOU KNOW will make a huge difference for you.

I’m going to walk you through a very specific process, give you a step by step method, and be here to support you and encourage you to make this positive and fun shift. Then together we’re going to celebrate how this one little personal growth project completely impacts every aspect of your success.

If you want some more information here’s the link to the official registration page with the most important details. http://habitofexcellence.eventbrite.com/ Or you can post a comment below!

Stay focused on excellence, play BIG, and put your passion in action

Coach Troy

I saw Tony Robbins on TV this week promoting his new reality show (which I missed watching because I forgot to Tivo it; I’ll check it on Hulu). He always shares a great perspective to consider, and here’s what I picked up, in case you missed it:

The late, great Jim Rohn, world-famous motivational speaker, always talked about “the seasons of our life” such that we all experience seasons just like Mother Nature provides us spring, summer, fall, and winter. The winter season is a time of struggle and survival. There are many difficulties during winter, but it is always followed by the thaw of spring. Spring is a time of new life. It is a rebirth and a time to nurture and carefully attend to the new opportunities that are coming into being. And then comes summer, which is a time of cultivation, growth, and protection. Summer is when the planted seeds mature and blossom. It is a time when we must protect the fruits of our labor and prepare for the fall harvest. Following every summer comes the fall, when we reap what we sow and prepare ourselves for the inevitable returning winter.

I love this analogy of life and how it applies to our everyday existence. As Tony mentioned this week, his perspective is that, as a whole, we are still in a winter season, which we have been enduring for two years now. Just like winter, there are some days of sunshine, but we are still experiencing many tough times.

Three tips he gave us to continue to endure this winter season successfully:

1) Don’t lie to yourself, and don’t make it worse than it is.

I think Tony put a very interesting spin on this concept. When I think about “not lying to myself,” I look at how I try to downplay the severity of the issue and make it less of the big deal that it is. On the other hand, Tony said, “Don’t make it worse than it is,” which I actually see a lot with business owners. Many people are allowing themselves to suffer much more than they need to.

2) See it better than it is.

This is a huge concept and one into which we really need to put more conscious and focused effort. I am a huge advocate for creating and maintaining a powerful vision of the future. I spend a major chunk of time with each and everyone of my clients in creating and clearly articulating their vision for the future. This vision is what gives us direction as well as focus but, most importantly, it gives us hope and purpose. I have seen so many people lose sight of their vision, and it breaks my heart because I can feel their confusion and pain. I can see their struggle and watch them running to and fro chasing their tails, trying desperately to find some stable ground and something solid onto which to firmly hold. It’s a scary thing, but the great news is, with a little help from a good business coach, you can get your vision clear and you can get it fast. This is easily the fastest and most dramatic result that will produce the absolute greatest impact in any person, their business, and their life…and it happens FAST.

3) Go after role models; look for someone who’s done it so it doesn’t seem fake to you.

Tony really hit the nail on the head here. It’s so fun to create visions of the future, to dream big, and to let your imagination wander to visions of glory and riches, but when the reality train hits you smack in the head, all that you’re left with is a fabulous fantasy and an empty wallet. As an old friend used to say, “That and five bucks will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.” However, if you can find someone who’s done what you’re trying to do, someone who can see the picture you have painted, and someone who has the ability to help you turn your visions into reality, now you’ve just “Supermanned” that speeding locomotive of reality. I always promote that the first three aspects that need to be added to each and every person’s success team are a mentor, a coach, and a peer-support group. There is just too much that needs to be done, too many big, life-changing decisions that need to be made, and all of it is happening so fast that we simply cannot waste time being in any sort of stuck, confused, frustrated, scared, unsure, or timid state of mind and try to get through it on our own.

So, if you won’t take it from me, at least take it from one of the greatest transformational leaders on the planet and come out of denial, clarify your vision of a brilliant and prosperous future, and find those successful role models to emulate and be coached by so you can be ready—because spring is coming!!!

Want to hear something cool that happened to me this weekend. I was sent a message from a friend with five words that absolutely inspired me. She said, “Have an EXTRA amazing weekend.” Pretty simple really, I mean, people share encouraging thoughts with me all of the time. I often read closing comments to emails or voice messages with “have a great day” or “make it a great day” (I really like that one), but for some reason these five words caught me in a special way and I thought to myself, “you know what, I’m just going to do that. I’m going to make sure this weekend is more than good, fun, and amazing, I’m going to go out of my way to make sure that it is EXTRA amazing.”

I talk a lot about mindset with my clients when we’re working on reaching business and money goals that are big, exciting, and are well outside of their comfort zone. Not just the way that we think, but what we think, and what we actually, consciously, deliberately, and purposefully create as our thoughts. Our mindset and what we think makes the entire world we live in shift. And this shift can completely expand or even shrink the results that are possible.

I’m typically a positive outlook type of person and heading into this weekend it was almost as if I was taking my positive outlook for granted. I just figured I would have a nice, relaxing, and fun weekend with some friend and family and I never really gave it much thought. Until those five words smacked me in the face like a water balloon on a hot summer day… “Have An EXTRA Amazing Weekend!!!” I immediately changed my thinking, I consciously altered my thoughts, and I focused my energy on how I could actually create something extra amazing out of every situation. Not only was it amazing, but it felt unbelievably good.

So, I don’t know if you had an extra amazing weekend like I did, but I sure hope you did. And regardless I’m sending you this message first thing this week to offer these same five words of inspiration in hopes that you will create a way to have an EXTRA AMAZING week.

PLAY BIG!!

Recently I was on a phone call with four of the greatest speakers, trainers, and business minds of my generation, Brian Tracy being one of them. He gave an awesome analogy that went a little like this…

Imagine you’re the owner of a professional baseball team. You’re looking to hire a new manager to pull your team out of the bottom ranks and become a winner. The new manager comes to you with his plan for success. He tells you that since your team has been on a big losing streak lately and attendance at games has dropped drastically that revenues and earnings for the team have gone down considerably. So, seeing as how revenues are down he’s decided to cut the teams training and practice program to save costs…

Hmmm, that doesn’t make sense, does it?

Just like in professional sports, our success demands that we constantly practice and improve our skills.

Coaching Tip: Think for a moment, what skill are you putting off developing that if you were to develop just a little bit, could totally transform your own level of performance as a business leader?

Quick test:
Below are the 4 pillars of transformational leadership, rate yourself on a scale of 0-5 for each

Vision & Strategy ___
Execution & Accountability ___
Solving Problem/Managing Challenges ___
Communication ____

Now ask the three to five people who work closest to you to give you a rank 0-5.

Pick the one that needs the most work, call your coach and get on it.

Don’t have a coach…give me a call I’ve got your back!!

Does THE RECESSION have you wishing you could take a recess from all the extra effort that making a living requires these days?

Then I have a question for you…are you a Wolf, or are you a Coyote?

“What the heck do wolves and coyotes have to do with making a living and my success in the time of a recession?” It has everything to do with your ability to survive in today’s economy, not to mention your ability to survive in tomorrow’s economy too.

Your decision about whether you want to be a Wolf or Coyote has everything to do with your future success…AND IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU DECIDE TODAY!!!

How does coaching impact business results? For the past seven years I have been coaching and consulting business owners, from the solopreneur to the multimillion dollar business owner. In this short time we have seen many different economic situations from the devastation of the stock market after September 11, to the recession we are sitting in today, and everything in between. In the past seven years I have learned one thing to be constant and true …THINGS CHANGE!

During these changing times I have posed this question to each of my clients. Do you want to be a Wolf or a Coyote? The response is often a blank stare followed by an eloquent, “Huh?”

So, here’s the explanation. The difference as I see it between the Wolf and Coyote is this:

Wolf: looks like a big dirty dog, lives and hunts in packs, almost extinct due to human encroachment, has been on endangered special list.

Coyote: looks like a smaller dirty dog, lives and hunts in my back yard, my front yard, my garbage. I’ve even seen them trotting along a golf course in downtown Scottsdale. If I left my door open and food on the table I’d probably find them in my kitchen eating off of my dining room table. They are everywhere.

Why are the Coyotes everywhere while the Wolf has struggled for existence? It is simply because the Coyote is more adaptable. The Coyote has adapted to what is available to them and has learned to thrive where the Wolf barely survives.

Seeing as how the one thing we tend to know as a constant is CHANGE, which animal would you prefer to pattern your thinking off of…one that barely survives or one that THRIVES? The key lies in your ability to adapt to your environment and the necessities of today’s business conditions. It’s not rocket science but it does take attention and conscious thought. Your success depends on your ability to adapt quickly to what is happening today; all the while knowing full well that what you do today may not work tomorrow. The business world is changing at a rapid speed and one day the strategy that you have used to keep up with all of the business that is just falling in your lap can instantly turn into a bankrupt strategy when the magic waterfall of business instantly dries up.

A great book to read about this very topic is Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson. It is the worlds number one book on change and a must read for you if you intend to thrive during these changing and demanding times.

Here are some suggestions that you can apply right now to begin the shift from thinking like the barely surviving Wolf to the thriving Coyote:

First off, get clear…Which one are you?

The Wolf says,

The economy sucks.

I have to work too hard for the same amount of pay.

People aren’t spending their money right now.

Consumers aren’t buying.

The economy is bad.

I just need to work harder.

Nobody is going to buy right now.

I keep trying and things just aren’t moving right now.

We’re in a recession, that’s just the way it is.

The Coyote says,

There’s food somewhere (aka opportunity). I’ll keep looking.

Economy, what economy? There’s an opportunity somewhere. I’ll keep looking.

Hmm, what else can I try? There’s opportunity somewhere. I’ll keep looking.

Recession??? There’s opportunity somewhere. I’ll keep looking.

Second, look at the reality. Are we in a recession? Sure. So what? All that tells us is that our spending needs to change, our strategy for selling needs to be adjusted. We may have to create ways to market and promote ourselves that are different from what they were before.

THE TRUTH IS PEOPLE ARE STILL SPENDING MONEY AND THEY ARE DOING IT EVERY DAY! How do I know this? I have clients that are having the greatest months ever in their business.

Third, get some coaching to adjust your strategy. Ok, it’s a shameless plug for coaching, but seriously now is not the time to be wasting trying to figure things out. While you’re trying to figure out what is happening and what to do about it, there’s a fat coyote who’s just eaten your dinner.

A Quick Thought on the Value of a Business Coach

“The Game” is a game for success, and it is no more than a game. The one thing we need to remember above all else is… the Game is always on. It doesn’t stop, sleep, pause, or take a time out. The clock is always running, therefore if we are going to truly play this game to the best of our ability, our number one job is to make sure that we keep our head in the game.

Keeping our head in the game is about maintaining focus. It’s about staying true to the objectives that we set forth being persistent, consistent, committed, and resilient. It’s about learning who we are, how we work, what we do well, and what we don’t do well so we know where to focus our resources for the most effective growth.

Keeping our head in the game is a lot of work!! A coach is the essential ingredient to help each player manage keeping their head in the game. They help us untangle our thoughts when we get confused. Focus our energies when we get The Wobbles. Create and execute effective plans. Teach us critical skills. Hold us accountable to fulfill our commitments. Challenge us to be more than we think we can be. They tell us what we need to hear, whether we like it or not. They boost our confidence and drive us through our fears. They know us often better than we know ourselves and they are there to pick us up when we need it most. They are the foundational key to creating massive success.

The Game is always on!! Get your head in the game. Get a coach to help you keep it there.

Be! Coaching & Consulting…”BE! THE CHANGE YOU WISH TO SEE IN YOUR BUSINESS”!!!!
